The sea otter is my late husband’s ultimate look-alike critter (even more than the koala and penguin). He really identified with them too. One day, he donned a full wetsuit and snorkeled out to one of the kelp gardens in Monterey Bay. He found a nice rock (which otters use to open their shellfish snackies), tangled himself in the kelp so that he wouldn’t float away, and floated peacefully on his back while banging the rock against his chest like an otter. It was very cute to watch him being so carefree….
