Thanks to very strong glass, this picture can be cute…
I feel sorry for the people who are freaking out in fear about a child’s visit to the zoo. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to live in such fear. To have a life absent of adventure or curiosity about the world and what is in it… it doesn’t sound like much of a life to me.
OMG! people! Knock it off! Its an exhibit at the zoo! Fact is STAY OUT OF THEIR SPACE and you will be fine! Clearly she is NOT in the WATER! If she was, then you can say all you want! The way some of you are reacting is just ridiculous!
I hate to say this to all the people who are freaking out because it’s dangerous, but… My mother has a similar picture of myself and Mike the Polar Bear at the Chicago Zoo when I was two. I’m still alive, and do, in fact, love polar bears now. IF the glass broke (which is unlikely, the glass used for those type of tanks is usually several inches thick), then EVERYONE in the room would be in danger, since the water would flood into the room. Therefore, by your arguments, going to this exhibit at ALL is dangerous. Frankly, it think it’s a wonderful picture, and I hope her parents keep it so she can remember the moment.
NC Zoo in Ashboro has a Polar Bear &Gorilla exhibit made they same way. The glass can take the bears & gorillas and they can dish out. They have been there for years. Let the child who may be the next Best Zoologist enjoy her zoo trip. She was scaling any walls to get in with the animals.
yeahhhh he wants to eat her face.
awww he thinks she needs a big bear hug! XD
The focus shouldn’t be on her hair it should be on the fact that the little girl is to close,& could die if that bear did decide to throw a rock at the glass what would her parents do then except blame theirselves for letting her go to close to the polor bear…
They would sue…
they shouldnt let her that close in the first place.
The polar bear who smashed the glass was not attempting to smash the glass, the break was most likely a accident while he was playing. The glass has to be exceptional strong to handle the stress of pressure from the thousands of gallons of water behind it. Most zoos who have polar bears have this kind of viewing area. It works as a enrichment for the bear as well as the people who are visiting. There has never been an incident where a polar bear in a zoo has smashed one of these windows and broken through to attack people.
That would scare the hell out of me – just saw a video of a polar bear that used a large rock ro fracture glass of his enclosed pool…I don’t thtink they are stupid animals…..
Louise.M. your kitten is so cute.
wow, that would be scary, Louise. was it a movie, or a real happening?
real happening at a zoo somewhere
Actually polar Bears are smarter than most bears. They can track a prey over hundreds of miles of snow and ice. not to mention they are the largest bears in the world. They are ever larger than the Kodiak Grizzly!
On TV NEWS recently: a similarpictureoftige baby w/ gls between them ; very differen tpublic reaction to tha than this:people were horrified at the RISK k to the young chidl…NOT CUTE; DANGEROUS!
Two observations here.If the glass is so safe why is there seepage around bottom? Marellen, A multitude of reasons. They are at a Zoo, who knows or cares how many times her gaurdian has had to pull her back thus far that day….Just saying!
Just Fyi: its not seepage, its where they coated the sealant onto the rock too much. Better to be EXTRA sealed than risk a leak. If it was a leak, it would show running gravity marks as it IS on an incline. You can also see it around the right edge as well. It just turned the stone a darker color so that it LOOKS like water.
The bear probably thinks the little girl is a baby seal.
Polar bear sez “Mmmmmm…snacktime!!!”
He looks hungry.. Glad there is glass between them!
If not for the glass, I think the bear is looking at dinner.
“I am here on behalf of the godfather- lolrus- who informs me you iz in possession of his bukket!”
They don’t look scared!
so adorable!
Cute! Can you belive I can’t figure out why her mother didn’t part her hair better?
Maryellen Nelson Winters Maybe she doesn’t have a mother. Daddys try but just don’t get it riight. Alice Engelke.
all the things to say and the only thing that pops into mind is her hair not being parted the right way?? smh OK
Maryellen Nelson Winters>Maybe the little girl was a BIG girl that day & parted her own hair.
There is just one word to say…..Wow!
