Turtles are fun. I had a box turtle in college that would follow me around my dorm room. But the Hall Lady made me get rid of him. Turtles do require LOTS of special care. They need access to sunshine or at the minimum full spectrum UV lights you get at the pet store. They can not survive on lettuce alone. They need a variety of fruits, veg and meat. Mine loved crickets. I’d also supplement with canned turtle food to make sure they got a full range of foods.

Okay people don’t rush out and buy a turtle, tortise what ever. They live over 100 years. Do you want such a responsibility? They need love and companionship. The lady with the tortise he/she is beautiful! I can tell he is healthy and happy and you have him on a good diet. Congratulations! I wish you both a long happy life together…..ji.

I love your Tortoise, I have one that’s about 9 inches and I was wondering what you feed yours…mine loves Romaine lettuce and canned science diet dog food. Can you tell me what yours likes best? Thanks

that’s a tortoise I have 2 aquatic turtles only grow to 5 inches but they have personalities like a dog or cat, beg for food and push each other outta the way for the food

tortoise is a subfamily of turtles, scientifically, it can be called a turtle.

I had box turtles when I was a kid. Someone stole them from a back yard pen during the summer.

Robert Dakelman I had one and named him Harry and once my grandma came to visit and we let Harry walk around the wooden floors in our Manhattan apartment, she woke up to him walking and his shell hitting the floor and asked what that was I told her OH it’s just Harry, she freaked WHO”S HARRY! he was fun.

I had two inside with free roam of the house. My great aunt was scared to death of them. Even my sister’s hamster bit her.

Kathy Doubleu Chelonia is a super order, formed by grouping those 3 with proto-turtles (extinct), those 3 alone form Testudines, which is also known as turtle. Pretty much why they say all tortoises are turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises.
Gone really too far into this, figured I’d tell you something I thought you didn’t know of and that would be ‘end of’, you learn something new every day etc.. =/

Robert Dakelman I also had box turtles in a pen in the backyard. They would always find a way to dig out and the neighbors would always be bringing them back. Once it was 2 years later!
