Growing up my mom’s cat used to sit on the edge of the tub when she took a bath, and one day he just slid in and let her wash him. My cat is the same way, but she prefers only about an inch of water, or if I let the kitchen sink fill up she likes to jump in every now and then. She is a beautiful black cat with pale green eyes, but looks funny with only her bottom half wet. Some cats like water.

To all those people complaining about this being “cruelty to animals”… Why don’t you go research what PETA ACTUALLY does and go do something about that… and leave these people and their obviously loved cats alone.

Despite what you may think, these cats were dirty and bathed for a purpose… Go champion something real.

I remember my cat Michael Phurbul (pronounced fur bull) Carruthers and the first time he got a bath. He fainted, dead away, just limp in my arms. Cuddled him while drying him off and he was alright after that. Then the first time he took a ride in a car, didn’t have a carrier at the time, he crawled under the front seat and fainted also. Took some gentle maneuvering to get him out from there. Never had a cat faint before and since then, but he only did that twice.
He lived to be 15. Very handsome 20 Lbs. of red tabby with a very pink nose.

my baby loves the shower he lays upside down and lets the water hit him he is awesome as for my new little girl picture in set queen victoria is an alley cat she is afraid of the kitchen now because of the sink she will learn.

I find that cats are cutest AFTER a bath, or at least my cats are. They want sleep and love so bad. It’s the only time that both of them try to lay in my lap at once.

::Refers to last photo:: Ohhh yeah that cat really looks like it’s being abused, oh the horror of a painfully adorable WET cat. As many have said below, who cares it’s their cat. My kitten on the other hand 10 weeks old, had his first bath because somebody locked her and two other litters in a wire cage, tossing off into the side of the road. So there wasn’t a spot on her that didn’t have flea bites, so I gave her a bath spent Five hours cleaning her fleas off with tweezers and a comb. Every day since then I turn on the bathtub faucet my Priya comes running in, if I’m running a bath she hops on the tub wall and walks around till the water is deep enough and she just goes right in no worries.

I don’t bathe my cats, they bathe themselves also if they want to get wet I leave fresh water in the bucket or sink. But I leave it up to them if they want to jump in or not. A couple of them loves water and playing it. That’s fine but I don’t force them in the water.

While it’s true cats don’t typically need a bath because they take care of it themselves, sometimes it is necessary (as some have mentioned – due to a messy or dermatological illness or the kitty getting into something). Some breeds DO require regular bathing, however. And for all you know, the cats in these photos are getting baths for one of those reasons. Complaining, protesting and/or name calling won’t change the fact that there are photos of drippy kitties on the net. Don’t like it? Don’t look.

when will people learn that in most all cases, cats do not need baths – unless they are elderly and need help cleaning themselves, or got into something toxic. I think all of these kitties look pretty terrified.

so cute. I give my cat a bath after a visit to the vet…he always poops and gets it all over himself, or when he rolls in the ash from a charcoal grill. Sometimes he’s come into the shower, but doesn’t stay for very long. We have to keep the toilet lid down because he likes to play with the water, and he is always making a mess out of his water bowl.

I had a black persian who got sick with the runs. The only way we could get him cleaned up and get all the nasties out of his beautiful hair was to give him a bath, vet advised. He was mad, he didn’t scratch us, but he would sit on the side of the tub after that whenever anyone took a bath and put his paws in the water as if he was testing the water to make sure the tempature was right. Once he did jump in for a quick swim!

My grown kids had a tiger cat that just climbed in with my son-n-law when he took a bath and walked around in the water right up to his shoulders, he put his swim suit on one day and showed me this…LOL..really funny.

some cats do like to take baths or get in water. We have had four that did. One would get in the shower with me, Satin would get in the pool, Sinbad liked a sink with water in it and Hondo does the shower bit too. Also I tend to give them baths when they have a runny problem, it’s easier than trying to get their rear clean otherwise.

I use baby wipes when its not that messy, but real mess my pets would get a bath, cuddles didnt mind it to much, she never bit, me, she always liked it when she was cleaner than before,because she would purr alot after ,I kiss my cuddles she passed away in march.
my pup likes to be dryed to,& all clean my pets are so funny.

Cats don’t need baths unless they are covered in mud etc: It’s cruel & gives them a great deal of stress. Most of them look terrified. If they get fleas get’Stronghold’ spot-on solution from the vet or similar. Sprays are absolutely no good & scare the cat.

I agree 100% Jane. We don’t give any of our cats baths – they take care of it themselves – or they bathe one another. IF they were to get into something, I’d take them to the vet for bathing – but NEVER do it myself. It stresses the cat out too much! I’ve had cats all my life and in the 50+ years, I”ve never bathed one! Take a damp wash cloth? Yeah when the dog bathes them and gets them slobberry – but never a bath!

Cats should never be bathed unless they have gotten into something that cannot come off any other way. Bathing them messes up their natural oils. Why traumatize them unnecessarily?

I’m sorry but show cats get bathed and if you know what you are doing it does not mess up the natural oils in their skin. They are used to getting bathed it starts at a very young age and does not traumatize them in fact my Maine Coon loves to get bathed. I also had a Calico who would climb in the shower with me.

I beg to differ. Search youtube for ‘cat loves water’ and you’ll find several water cats. I remember seeing one where it was a Maine Coon and it would whine about getting OUT of the tub.

To all the above, I still wear scars from years past and my 19 yr old won’t let me touch him even with a brush. He is not in pain, and runs up and down stairs like a kitten, but he is the boss. The 8 yr old will let me brush him every day as he does not drop his shedding, it’s a must do. Never does he snarl, scratch or bite me. BUT, never tried bath time…..I’m scared big time, LOL

I use Waterless Bath No Rinse Shampoo because my cat is outdoors most of the time and smells like oil from the carport. This stuff is great. He just lays there and spray it on and massage it until a foam appears and then towel him off. Then I turn him over to his other side. He never gives me a problem, even when I do his tummy. Then i brush him and he smells so good!

This is the reason giving an adult cat is a 2 person job, but i have hardly ever gotten bit or scratched by my kitties, though not all are sweethearts…
